The Oscars vs. The Super Bowl

It's a television showdown. Ok, not really. According to this infographic, I think it's pretty clear which event takes the cake. But interesting nonetheless to see how the two stack up against one another.
Did you know that the NFL spends over $1.25 Million Dollars on championship rings per year, compared to that of the Academy Awards measly $25k for their little gold men? Or that in the social world of Twitter, there is on average 3+ million more tweets about the Super Bowl than about the Oscars?
However, despite the obvious differences, it's pretty incredible how each event on its own generates such a buzz.
David Mamet (author of “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “Wag the Dog,” and “The Untouchables”) once wrote the following:
"Only two legitimate national holidays remain. By `legitimate' holidays, I mean this: holidays with a specific, naturally evolved meaning, the celebration of which we find refreshing and correct, and in the celebration of which we, as a People, are united. These holidays are the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards."
He could very well be on to something there.
